'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Star Rachel Bloom Breaks Down Fourth Wall In New Live Show

Rachel Bloom's live show comes to the Pabst Theater Sept. 22.

Rachel Bloom might not be the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend from her hit TV show anymore, but the Emmy award-winning actress, songwriter, and comedian is still performing. From the role of Silver in Angry Birds 2 to her own stage show, Rachel Bloom Live, Bloom is bringing her particular brand of humor and music to worldwide audiences.

"There's little to no fourth wall," says Bloom of her live show. "I love the shows changing as we go."

Since the end of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in April, Bloom's stylistic evolution has taken shape in the form of her spontaneous live show.

"Around the time I started to realize I could mix my love of musical theater with comedy writing is around the time I felt like I could finally embrace who I was," Bloom says.

She notes that embracing her vulnerability and personality was key to her success, as well as understanding the subjective nature of her art form.

"You can’t predict what other people are going to like or relate to. All you can really do is write what you think is good, what you would want to watch and what you would think is funny," Bloom says. "And that’s all I can continue to do, is write the stuff I want to listen to and hope other people want to listen to it."

Her insecurities also played a role in her early days in musical comedy.

"Finding my voice started with me feeling like I wasn't good enough for my goals," Bloom says. "So the least I can do is set out to do something individually that only I could do."
