Removing flowers that are fading is an easy way to encourage new blooms, says Lake Effect contributor Melinda Myers.

The summer is in full swing and gardens are looking green. But there are always ways to make our flower beds sparkle a bit brighter.

Every month, Lake Effect contributor Melinda Myers gives her expert tips on gardening. This month, she explains the process of deadheading flowers.

“Removing the faded flowers encourages more blooms. And so as much as it may pain you to go out there and clip off those flowers as they fade, think of it as a way of making sure you have more blossoms and color in your garden as you go,” Myers explains.
