Democratic Gubernatorial Hopeful Hulsey Plans to Hand out KKK-like Hoods at GOP Convention

Wisconsin Legislature

Wisconsin Republicans are holding their party’s annual gathering in Milwaukee this weekend.

According to the Associated Press, Democratic state Rep. Brett Hulsey plans to show up, attempting to distribute white hoods, which resemble those worn by the Ku Klux Klan.

The AP says Hulsey wants the action to highlight what he believes are the GOP’s racist policies.

The Madison Assemblyman reportedly showed off a white hood at the Capitol press room on Thursday. He says he made it with curtain fabric that he bought for $1.00. Hulsey says he stitched the hood, using his daughter’s sewing machine.

The AP says state GOP Executive Director Joe Fadness is calling Hulsey’s plan a “reprehensible, vile stunt.”

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate  released a statement briefly stating: "We may disagree with the policies of this Republican Party, but this type of behavior is completely unacceptable and grossly inappropriate."

Hulsey hopes to capture the Democratic nomination for governor. He’s up against three others,  including Mary Burke, the best known and best funded candidate. The primary will be held in August.
