DPW Employee Killed in Hit and Run Incident

An employee of the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works was killed in a hit and run incident on Friday morning.

Bryan Rodriguez was filling potholes as part of a street repair crew in the 1800 block of N. 17th St, when a car struck him, pinning him to his truck. He was transported to the hospital immediately by first responders, but died later of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle fled from the car and is reportedly in custody.

The Milwaukee Common Council issued a statement saying: "It is with great sadness that we come together to mourn the passing of another public servant, senselessly killed while doing his job on the streets of Milwaukee."

Rodriguez' death comes during the same week that Officer Matthew Rittner was shot and killed while executing a search warrant-- the third line-of-duty death of a Milwaukee Police Officer since June.
