Eric Trump Rallies Wisconsin Republicans

With less than one week to the midterm elections, both parties are bringing out their heavy hitters. While former Vice President Joe Biden rallied Democrats in Milwaukee and Madison, President Donald Trump's son Eric also had three stops across the state, including in Sheboygan.

Trump's aim was to rally the base for Republican candidates in what some are calling a referendum on his father's policies.

More than 100 people gathered to see the younger Trump, many of them sporting red Make America Great Again hats.

When the headliner arrived, the crowd cheered loudly and raised cell phones to snap photos and record the speech. Trump said the Republican party has a “pro-America” agenda, unlike the Democrats, who he said want to raise taxes and end support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“They want to resist, they want to obstruct. They want to hamper any forward progress, and they want to ban plastic straws," he said to laughter from the crowd. "Right, I mean literally. That is literally the Democratic platform right now.”

He said the only way to continue the forward momentum of his father’s policies is to get behind candidates like Gov. Scott Walker, U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir and Congressman Glen Grothman.

More than 100 people gathered to hear Eric Trump speak at a rally on Tuesday in Sheboygan.

He pointed to his father’s nominations of Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, and said that before they were confirmed, America was at risk of losing its religious liberty and its guns. He says he has no political role other than being a surrogate for his father, and other Republicans.

“I will fight like hell. My father will fight every single day," he said. "And we will defend this country. But get out to the polls, alright? Get out to the polls and get your friends out to the polls. I promise, we’ll be back, and we’ll be back often.”

Later, to reporters, Trump said the Republican base needs to mobilize even though his father is not on the ticket. “I hear it all the time, ‘My guy is not on the ballot, so I’m not going to go out and vote,'” he said. "and I say ‘please, don’t think that way, you can’t think that way. You have to get out and vote.' If you’re not voting for Republicans, you’re effectively voting against my father.”

Voter Carolyn Christie of Sheboygan echoed Trump’s message. "Just get people to get out and vote and vote red. We want to keep our country and Wisconsin and the direction that Wisconsin’s going."

She says she has put up signs in her yard but has already lost one neighbor over politics.
