It's that time of year again, where high school seniors across the country are graduating. Milwaukee Public Schools hosted its annual Senior Send-off on Thursday at Washington High School to celebrate seniors who are ushering in the next chapter of their lives.
Some of the seniors shared their thoughts about their high school experience and what's next for them.
“High school is what you make of it. So if it's boring, it's because you're not doing something right. Be involved. I was involved in my high school and I enjoyed it. It was fun for me,” says Samari Price. She'll be attending Marquette University in the fall.
Eric Roberson says he's relieved to be done with high school. He graduated from Riverside University High School.
“Honestly, I don't gotta wake up at 6 in the morning to go to the bus or just stayed outside in the snow or up in the rain or in the cold," Roberson says.
Aisha Ware, who graduated from Washington High School, is also relieved. She was working almost 30 hours a week at Walmart while going to school — and still maintained a 3.8 GPA, keeping her place on honor roll.
“I’ve been thinking about college since I was in elementary school. Like for real. That's what I wanted to do, I was gonna be the first one of my momma's kids who go to college. I just want to make my mom proud and myself proud by accomplishing something," she says.
Ware says she was happy when she crossed that stage to receive her high school diploma, but she’s looking forward to the next time she walks across the stage and receives her university degree.
