Hughes Family Band Brings Southern Fried 'Bar-Boogie' To Milwaukee Music

The Hughes Family Band has a sound that's a unique blend of grit and southern fried country. They like to call it "bar-boogie" —  the kind of music you might hear at your local corner bar, which makes it a good fit for a city like Milwaukee.

"Milwaukee is a city of bars. There’s a corner bar in every place, everyone has their own little spot. There’s some kind of romance about going to dirty old bar, or smoky pool room and listening to old country music and having a beer," says Conor Lamue, the band's vocalist and bass player.

The group is made up of some musicians familiar to Milwaukee's music scene, including guitarist Ian Hughes, drummer Bryce Kedrowicz, keyboardist Nathan Hughes, and Johanna Rose on backup vocals. The group will play at the Flat Out Friday Official Afterparty at the Cooperage in Milwaukee on Friday.

Joy is a WUWM host and producer for Lake Effect.
