With Wisconsin’s only school of the arts, UW-Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts is home to hundreds of aspiring artists, actors and musicians.
On this edition of UWM Today, we showcase the school’s classical guitar program that has developed an international reputation for excellence. Our guest is Rene Izquierdo, associate professor at UWM and graduate of Yale University, a native of Cuba where he defected from more than 20 years ago. Since coming to UWM, he has performed around the world and has built one of the strongest classical guitar programs in the United States. That program has attracted students like Leonela Alejandro, who also joins us.
