Lane Moore Brings Dating App Escapades to the Comedic Stage in Milwaukee

Amy Lombard
Comedian Lane Moore

Lane Moore appreciates dating app blunders so much that she decided to make them happen live in her comedy show, Tinder LIVE! Ahead of Moore’s Friday Turner Hallshow in Milwaukee, she joins Lake Effect to discuss how swiping left and right in real-time went from an inside joke to a comedy she says everyone can relate to.

Tinder LIVE! began as a joke with her friends. After matching with other profiles, Moore says she joked about everything from corny biography sections to the unusual pick-up lines her profile received.

During the live show, Moore engages her audience in what she describes as a “choose your own adventure” experience in modern dating. Tinder requires the user to swipe through profiles of people in their area - swiping right for interested and left for not interested- in hopes of making a match. After audience members help Moore decide who gets a swipe to the right, she hopes to match with a person and begin a conversation right then and there.

“The second that the profile pops up I have like 12 jokes,” Moore says. “It just moves so fast.”

Tinder LIVE! soon became an experiment in human connection and sometimes, she says, the failure to launch. “I really do believe that most people are really good and were trying to connect and that people just don't know how they’re being perceived,” Moore says.

Moore says she is living her childhood dream. In addition to her live show, she works as an editor at Cosmopolitan and has appearedon HBO’s series Girls.

“As a kid, I was definitely told a lot ‘OK, you can only pick one thing that you do’, and I just never believed that,” she says. Moore says she grew up and chose them all -  a comedian, actress, writer and singer.
