Local Group Helps Students Express Themselves Through Art

Express Yourself Milwaukee, exyomke.org

The arts of all kinds, whether poetry, music, painting, or acting, have been proven to help people face and even overcome the challenges in their lives. And that’s especially true for kids who are at risk.

These kids are either on the verge of entering into the juvenile correctional system, or are already in it.

One of the groups using the arts to help kids find their way out of that system is Express YourselfMilwaukee. It’s the local branch of a national program that started in Boston. Express Yourself's core mission is to teach kids they have a voice that matters.

Lori Vance, one of the co-executive directors of Express Yourself Milwaukee, joined Bonnie North in studio to talk about how art inspires us to know ourselves more fully.
