Milwaukee Group Goes Beyond The Classroom To Support African American Students

Supporting and pushing students toward academic, professional, and personal success is the driving force behind Future Urban Leaders (FUL). The Milwaukee nonprofit's mission is to create opportunities that support youth in realizing their unique potential.

The organization currently serves more than 150 students in Milwaukee Public Schools. These third-12th graders are primarily African American, from the city’s north side.

FUL began in 2014, teacher Ross Romenesko saw a need to do more in the lives of his students outside of the classroom. That involved giving them access to opportunities they otherwise may not have had.

Programming is structured around five core areas: health and wellness, arts and humanities, academic enrichment, service and leadership, and college and career readiness.
