A couple of years ago, Milwaukee-area realtor and writer Kathleen Davis was on the verge of sending her oldest child off to college, and that got her to wondering whether childhood and adolescence had truly prepared him for the indpendence that he'd soon have. The result was her book You Never Told Me That! A Crash Course in Preparing Your Kids for Independence.
Flash forward and Davis' younger son is now getting ready for college, and the intervening time has had her reflecting on the lessons she put on paper a couple of years ago.
Davis dropped by the Lake Effect studio recently to pick up where her narrative left off, and focused less on advice for kids and more on advice for up-and-coming empty-nesters.
"I think parents are like, 'Oh my gosh! I've defined myself by these children for so long ... Is that who I am?'"
She continues, "I don't know who could possibly get to this point and not start wondering, 'Am I gonna do the same thing I've been doing the last 20 years while I'm raising my children?''
Through some reflection, Davis raises hope for parents who are facing a new beginning and, inevitably, the opportunity to focus on their lifelong dreams.
