Nora Collins, Connecting Nashville and Wisconsin

Mitch Teich

Brookfield native Nora Collins is not long past her 22nd birthday, and she’s already been a songwriter for eight years. The country and Americana musician had recorded and released four albums while still living in Wisconsin.

But life has changed more recently with a move to Nashville and a deal with a publishing and talent development company there.

"You never know who you're playing to or who you're talking with," Collins says of Nashville. "It's always crazy to find out 'Oh that person wrote this song?'" Despite the move, Collins will always have a piece of her heart in Wisconsin. "I've got a lot of shows in Wisconsin. It's important to me to keep those commitments and play back home."

Collins has a new self-titled CD out featuring original material, written in partnership with some significant names in the industry. She stopped by the Lake Effect performance studio to play cuts from the CD, "Guess I Woulda Known By Now," and "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get."

She’ll play the US Cellular stage at Summerfest on July 6th, and numerous other festivals around the region through July. Our in-studio performance was engineered by Jon Strelecki.
