Preparing Students To Address Racial Discrepancies

Jason Rieve
Tom Luljak with guests.

While Milwaukee has a reputation for being a warm, welcoming town with wonderful social and recreational opportunities, there are other characteristics of our community that are not positive. Classified as one of America’s most segregated communities, metropolitan Milwaukee does not display the type of diversity found in many other similar size cities. African-American men, in particular, often find themselves at a disadvantage.

On this edition of UWM Today, we focus on the racial discrepancies that exist in our community. Our guest is David Pate, associate professor of social work and chairman of UWM’s social work department. David has distinguished himself as a keen observer of the life of African-American men in Milwaukee. Joining David in our studio today are two of his students, Lawrence Moore and Brandon Savage.

Tom Luljak hosted UWM Today on WUWM for more than two decades and is the inaugural host of Curious Campus.
