"Spinning Yarns": Singer Norah Rendell Performs for Lake Effect

Bonnie North

The last time Canadian singer Norah Rendell played in our studio, she was with the Outside Track.

It's a band she co-founded when she was in music school in Ireland and Rendell spent seven years as the band’s lead singer and flutist. That band is still going, but Rendell has moved on – she’s got a brand new solo album out called Spinning Yarns that explores the wealth of Irish songs in Canada.

Rendell says she's drawn to these songs because they have beautiful melodies and because of their Irishness.

"That's the song tradition that I know the most about," she says. "So it's bringing that passion for traditional Irish song and my Canadian Heritage together."

Rendell, along with her husband and guitarist Brian Millerand Milwaukee guitarist RandyGosa, perform at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center here in Milwaukee Saturday night, and they joined us in the studio to give us a preview.
