Suspect In Middleton Office Shooting Dies, Three People Being Treated For Injuries

Update 1:57 p.m.: The man who allegedly entered a Middleton, Wis., office building Wednesday morning and opened fire has died after being shot by police. The suspect injured three people who are being treated at area hospitals. 

Officials have lifted the lockdown at the office building where the shooting occurred around 10 a.m.

Early Wednesday afternoon, University Hospital in Madison said it was treating four patients, two of whom were in serious condition and one who was in critical condition. A second hospital was treating a fourth patient for injuries that are not life-threatening.

In a statement, Middleton police say the investigation is ongoing and "there will be police activity in the area for a prolonged period of time." But the statement says anyone who was on lockdown "can resume normal activity."

An office building in the Madison, Wis., suburb of Middleton has been surrounded by police after reports of a workplace shooting around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the shooting took place at an address that includes Esker Software and WTS Paradigm. At least 40 emergency response vehicles were on the scene.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports that four injuries have been confirmed. The shooter also has been injured, leaving the situation "stable."

Some people who work in the office building reportedly sprinted from the scene after hearing shots.

Others huddled in their company's cafeteria, away from windows, and remained there more than an hour after the shooting.
