Since the construction of the Bucks’ Fiserv Forum started three years ago, much has changed in that part of town. The area, which some have dubbed the “Deer District,” has taken huge leaps forward over the past year. But there's still much to be done.
As the final bits of rubble are cleared from the former Bradley Center, the Fiserv Forum's limelight is shining a bit brighter.
"If you approach the Fiserv Forum from the south, you have a dramatically different view of it than you had when it first opened. And that really is becoming sort of the main sight-line/focal point for the Forum," says Tom Daykin, a reporter covering commercial development for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
"That really is becoming sort of the main sight-line/focal point for the Forum."
Just outside of the stadium, there are a number of bars and restaurants, as well as an outside viewing space for games. Just down the road, tenants have started to move into the apartments in the former Plankinton Building. Now known as "The Avenue," the space is continuing to transform, with a ground-level food hall expected to be completed by 2020.
As many projects continue in the area, the impending Democratic National Convention (DNC) is looming over construction workers and project managers. But although many of these projects will be completed close to the date of the DNC, Daykin says he believes things should be wrapped up by the time convention-goers swarm the area.
"I think we'll avoid the shambles," he says.
