UWM Professor Discusses Race And Inequality

The racial equity protests around the country sparked by the death of George Floyd have shed new light on longstanding issues of race and inequality in the United States. In Milwaukee, the protests have once again highlighted the impact of the segregationist practices that were once common in the area and that have contributed to socioeconomic inequality for people of color in the region, especially for the Black population.

On this edition of UWM Today, we are joined by David Pate – associate professor and chair of UWM’s Department of Social Work in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare. Pate is an expert on how Black men are affected by the social welfare system and the challenges they face in trying to attain economic security. He has been a frequent commentator on the racial equity movement in Milwaukee.

Tom Luljak hosted UWM Today on WUWM for more than two decades and is the inaugural host of Curious Campus.
