x = Astronomy

If you hear the phrase “solve for x,” and break into hives, don't fear. Jean Creighton joins Lake Effect every month to talk astronomy, but nearly everything she does is based on mathematics.

"Math can resemble in some ways another language, but we can master it to some extent. At least enough to communicate what we need," Creighton says.

She further explains how math and astronomy are interconnected:

Lake Effect contributor Jean Creighton joins us each month to talk about all things astronomical. She is also the Director of the Manfred Olson Planetarium on the UWM Campus.

Bonnie joined WUWM in March 2006 as the Arts Producer of the locally produced weekday magazine program Lake Effect.
Dr. Jean Creighton has always been inspired by how the cosmos works. She was born in Toronto, Ontario and grew up in Athens, Greece where her mother claims she showed a great interest in how stars form from the age of five.
