MMAC Survey Details Mediocre May

The local economy sputtered this May, according to year over year figures.

The latest report from the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce shows fewer than half of the survey’s economic indicators logged gains in May, compared with the same month a year earlier.

Highlights included a 9.5 percent job increase in the construction, mining and natural resource sector. Among the negatives recorded in May, average weekly hours for manufacturing workers fell for the first time in six months.

Other survey results show new car registrations rose 19 percent in May. The value of signed construction contracts totaled $47.3 million, down 46 percent from month earlier levels.
