Not Enough Ice Outside? Cirque Du Soleil Brings The Ice Indoors In Its New Show

Just in case you thought Milwaukee wasn't cold enough this week, the Fiserv Forum is getting in on the artic action. On Wednesday night, the arena hosts its first show that requires a sheet of ice. Cirque du Soleil's first ice-themed show, Crystal, runs Wednesday through Sunday at Fiserv.

The show features the company's signature stunning acrobatics — such as trapeze work, but adds complicating factors such as ice and ice skates. It means acrobats become skaters, and skaters become acrobats.

"We looked at the acrobats who are good at what they do, but also who were open-minded to explore the territory of the ice. And vice versa," Fabrice Lemire, the artistic director of the Montreal-based show, says.

Lemire also shares how Crystal was challenging to both the performers and the creative minds behind it.

"When you question your place in the artistic platform, in the creative platform, that means you're going to a territory you don't know to learn about what you do and also to bring new elements," Lemire says.
