Milwaukee Magazine Readers Vote On 'The Best Of MKE'

Jon Mattrisch

Every year, Milwaukee Magazine devotes an issue to the best of Milwaukee and the surrounding area.

This year's "Best of MKE" is the first time in recent memory that the editors have turned to the readers for their thoughts, says Carole Nicksin, editor and publisher of Milwaukee Magazine. Choosing from nominees selected by magazine editors, the readership voted on everything from Best Burger to Best Esthetician.

"We just decided to change it up and hear from readers," explains Nicksin.

While editors chose the categories and sourced nominees from their communities, the readers are the ultimate deciding factor. The issue features some national chains and larger companies, but readers will mostly see locally-owned businesses and members of their community featured as the "best."

"Our slogan is 'read local' and I think that our readers would expand upon that. They try to do everything local and that's why they read the magazine, to find out what's going on," says Nicksin.

The "Best of MKE" feature is in the September issue of the magazine.
