Miss Manners

NPR's Scott Simon talks to Judith Martin, author of the nationally syndicated "Miss Manners" column, about the unique strengths and weaknesses of American etiquette, historically, and today. Her new book is called Star Spangled Manners: In Which Miss Manners Defends American Etiquette for a Change. It's published by W.W. Norton.

Scott Simon is one of America's most admired writers and broadcasters. He is the host of Weekend Edition Saturday and is one of the hosts of NPR's morning news podcast Up First. He has reported from all fifty states, five continents, and ten wars, from El Salvador to Sarajevo to Afghanistan and Iraq.
