More than 170 Milwaukee area buildings will open their doors to tourists this weekend. Historic Milwaukee’s annual Doors Open Milwaukee event also includes more than 30 tours of historic or otherwise notable places that the public can’t always access.
The 2018 spotlight neighborhoods are King Drive, Mitchell Street and Oak Creek. For those interested in the arts, the King Drive neighborhood will be especially pleasing. Grace Fuhr, special events director and program manager for Doors Open Milwaukee, says that neighborhood really fosters the arts, so there are many art-related locations.
"As always with Doors Open, we hope that it's not just a weekend opportunity for people to dabble in sights, but that it gives them a taste and that they want to come back to the neighborhood and explore more," she notes.

1) The 5 Points Art Gallery and Studios
Location: 3514 N. Port Washington Ave.
The 5 Points Art Gallery and Studios is in the process of occupying a building that was once a funeral home.
“I’m excited about bringing vitality back to — I know it was a former funeral home, so it’s a play on words — but bringing vitality and life back to it, as it was closed for some time now," says Fatima Laster of 5 Points Art Gallery and Studios.
