The Coronavirus Pandemic's Impact On Mental Health

Emily Files
UWM's Tom Luljak chats with W. Hobart Davies, Shawn Cahill, and Meghan Ariotti.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to sicken thousands of Wisconsinites and kill hundreds, the physical threat to all of us is clear. The situation is also having a major impact on our emotions. Stay-at-home orders, layoffs, furloughs, home schooling, and isolation for many, they all add up to a huge disruption in the way we see the world and the way we feel about ourselves.

On this edition of UWM Today, we examine the ways in which the coronavirus is creating a public mental health crisis and what we can do about it. Our guests include W. Hobart Davies, professor and chair of UWM’s psychology department; Shawn Cahill, an associate professor of psychology; and Meghan Ariotti, an assistant clinical professor in UWM’s College of Nursing and a nurse at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

Tom Luljak hosted UWM Today on WUWM for more than two decades and is the inaugural host of Curious Campus.
