Jimmy, Wisconsin's official groundhog, chomped the ear of Sun Prairie Mayor Jonathan Freund as he was declaring an early spring.
The groundhog's handlers apparently held the prognosticator too close to the mayor's head.
Freund grimaced, but carried on with his official proclamation about spring - although he got it wrong. Jimmy saw his shadow, so Wisconsin can expect six more weeks of winter.
The city later explained: "Only the mayor can translate Jimmy's prediction."
Or perhaps Jimmy didn't like the fact the mayor was mistaken.
