Milwaukee-Area Students, Parents, Teachers: We Want To Hear About Your New Normal

Andrew Douglas Middle School, an MPS school, is closed but serving as a meal pick-up site during the coronavirus closure.

Schools across Wisconsin are shut down indefinitely to help slow the spread of the new coronavirus. It’s an unprecedented situation, and it raises a lot of questions about what schools should do in this situation and how student learning and emotional wellbeing is affected as families hunker down at home.

WUWM wants to hear from students of all ages, as well as their families and teachers, about how they’re adjusting to the new normal of school closures and social distancing.

Send us a voice memo describing your experience. Your recordings may be used in our on-air or online coverage.

How to participate:

1. Download the "WUWM Public Radio" app on your smart phone.

2. Click "Submit Voice Memo" in the app.

3.  Hit the red microphone button, talk, and then hit publish. (An email will automatically be sent to WUWM alerting us of your voice memo.)

4. If you have an iPhone, you can also use the voice memo app to record your story and email it to WUWM's education reporter Emily Files at files@uwm.edu.

5. Don't have a smartphone? Email Emily at files@uwm.edu and she'll help you figure out a way to get us a recording of your voice.

What to say:

1. Please say and spell your name.

2. Say your email address or phone number (however you prefer to be contacted).

3. Tell us where you are from and a bit about yourself.

4. Explain your new normal.

Here are some questions to help get you thinking about your "new normal":

  • What has the transition to remote learning or no school been like for you?
  • What does your new daily routine look like?
  • What are you doing to try to make the most of the situation?
  • What are your biggest questions about the future?

We look forward to hearing from you!
