Plan Moves Ahead For Second State Elk Herd

Hearings could be scheduled soon on plans to establish a second elk herd in the state. The DNR Board is expected to schedule public hearings tomorrow on a plan to bring a new elk herd to Black River Falls. The animals would come from a herd in Kentucky. Officials hope to import the first 50 animals during 2015.  The DNR, working in conjunction with the National Forest Service and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, earlier re-established a herd in the Clam Lake area.
