Using Public Funding For Pro Sports: A Look At Miller Park's Sales Tax

What does the money collected through the Miller Park sales tax go towards?

With talk of a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks on people's minds, funding through public money has many thinking back – both positively and negatively – to the tax to support the construction of Miller Park.

It’s a tax that’s still being collected, even long after the baseball stadium’s construction was complete.

"There hasn't been a particularly intense amount of scrutiny of what this money actually gets spent for, so  it's been spent for some projects that have been arguably unnecessary," Matt Hrodey of Milwaukee Magazine says.

Hrodey wrote a feature in the September issue that addresses what that tax does today. He joined Lake Effect's Mitch Teich in the studio.
