Assembly Leaders Urge Kramer to Resign

Waukesha Rep. Bill Kramer has been charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, involving a former legislative aide.

The incident allegedly occurred three years ago.

The Republican also is accused of sexually harassing two other women last February.

On Thursday, the Assembly Republican leadership sent Kramer a letter, demanding he step down. They told him that he’s lost his colleagues’ confidence and trust, and brought disgrace to Wisconsin.

Assembly leaders previously removed Kramer as majority leader. On Thursday, they also stripped him of his committee assignments.

In a statement released Thursday, GOP leaders say if Kramer does not resign, his constituents have the option to try to remove him from office, through a recall. If he’s convicted of a felony, he would immediately be removed from office.

Kramer does not plan to run for reelection this fall.

Kramer’s attorney previously has said the legal process should be allowed to run its course, and there’s no need to rush to judgment.
