This month we celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of history’s greatest moments: the first time mankind stepped foot on the moon. It happened July 20, 1969, when U.S. Astronaut Neil Armstrong, part of the Apollo 11 crew, took the first moon walk ever.
On this edition of UWM Today, we look back at that day a half century ago when the world heard the words ”The Eagle has landed.” Joining us in the studio is Jean Creighton, an astrophysicist at UW-Milwaukee who runs the Manfred Olson Planetarium on campus. We talk about what the moon landing has meant for us, and also get details about a special celebration the planetarium is holding July 20 to commemorate the event.
