Sounds Like Milwaukee: Cicadas meet crickets

There are more than 3,000 species of cicadas, which fall into roughly two categories: annual cicadas, which are spotted every year, and periodical cicadas, which spend most of their lives underground and only emerge once every decade or two. One WUWM listener loves their sound.

There are more than 3,000 species of cicadas, which fall into roughly two categories: annual cicadas, which are spotted every year, and periodical cicadas, which spend most of their lives underground and only emerge once every decade or two. One WUWM listener loves their sound.

Sounds Like Milwaukee is a new WUWM series that asks southeastern Wisconsin to share their favorite sounds, sounds that make them think, sounds they connect to — and to explain why those sounds resonate.

Instructions on how to participate are here.

This week, we hear from Jim Loew of Riverwest. Thanks Jim!

Jim Loew is a longtime Riverwest resident. He looks forward to the sounds of cicadas every summer.
