A high-ranking naval leader says even though Milwaukee isn't on the high seas, the U.S. Navy is important to Milwaukee’s economic security.
"What the greatest thing we do in terms of commerce here in Milwaukee and really for the globe is we keep the sea lanes of communication open, we keep trade moving – the global commerce happening," he says.
Rear Admiral Dee Mewbourne, Commander of the Naval Service Training Command, visited Milwaukee in June to meet with community and business leaders.
The purpose of his visit was to explain how the Navy's actions can be a boon to Wisconsin's economy, particularly in connecting it to global commerce.
Mewbourne met with MMAC, Johnson Controls, and Port of Milwaukee representatives.
This interview originally aired in June.
