Musician John Statz Returns Home To Wisconsin With New Album

Michael Reilly /
Musician John Statz returns to Wisconsin for the release of his new CD, "Tulsa."

You can take John Statz out of the Midwest, but you can’t take the Midwest out of John Statz.

The Madison native now lives in Colorado, but he’s back home in Wisconsin for the release party for his new CD, Tulsa. The album features another transplanted Wisconsinite, Jeffrey Foucault.

Statz will join Milwaukee musician Hayward Williams for the show tomorrow night at Club Garibaldi in Milwaukee.  But ahead of the show, he spent some time with Lake Effect's Bonnie North to play some tunes and talk about his Midwest and musical experiences.

"[Wisconsin] is a real place with beautiful scenery, really nice people, great cities and its share of other difficulties that I think inspire songs," Statz said.

Here are three songs Statz performed live in the Lake Effect performance studio:

"Old Pro"
"Home At Last"

Bonnie North
Bonnie joined WUWM in March 2006 as the Arts Producer of the locally produced weekday magazine program Lake Effect.
