Milwaukee Music Roundup: August 2019
Matt Wild is one of the co-founders of Milwaukee Record, which he and the other co-founder, Tyler Maas, describe as an online source for music, culture, and gentle sarcasm. Among the many cultural things Milwaukee Record keeps track of is a nearly exhaustive list of new music from local musicians.
In July, Lake Effect started a partnership with Milwaukee Record based on that list called Milwaukee Music Roundup. Here's Matt's Milwaukee Music Roundup for August 2019:
"Jangly, nervy, energetic, twisty-turny guitar rock," Wild says. "It's a bittersweet thing to hear this great band, all this new music knowing that for the time being we won't be able to hear them live."
"Lyrics in here specifically discussing his encounters with police as a young black man. Absolutely knockout of a song. Very angry, very sad protest music," Wild says.
"I'm tickled that someone finally wrote a song for Milwaukee celebrity and ubiquitous historian John Gurda," Wild says. "This is a terrific singalong song."
"A band that's never been afraid of writing a hooky pop song. To see them hang it up feels like the end of an era. It's great that they're going out on a high note," Wild says.
