Irish Country Singer Prepares For Midwest Road Trip Into The Unknown

Aug 21, 2018

Even though Milwaukee Irish Fest is over, there is still one Irish singer who will be traveling through the Midwest — except it isn’t for a concert or festival.

Irish country music star Daniel O’Donnell initially gained public attention in 1983 with his first recording, and has since become a household name internationally. While O’Donnell is known for his singing, lately he has embarked on a new journey into television with his wife Majella.

Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip followed the pair as they embarked on a road trip designed by the owners of B&Bs in Ireland, leaving Daniel and Majella with no idea where they were going or what they would end up doing.

Now the couple is preparing to bring their show stateside with a road trip, traveling from Chicago, Illinois. to Minot, North Dakota, in an RV. Although Daniel and Majella will be driving across the Midwest, their itinerary will be planned entirely by the locals of Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota.

"The whole concept of the trip is that we don't know where we're going, where we're staying, who we'll meet, and what we will do," O'Donnell explains. "Every person that you meet takes it in a different direction."

He notes that the U.S. road trip will be vastly different compared to his travels in the U.S. as a touring musician, but the experience of a quintessential American road trip is one he and his wife are looking forward to.

"I think we're very, very open and we don't tend to anticipate what it should be like. I think sometimes the anticipation spoils the reality," says O'Donnell.

Before he hits the road, O’Donnell took some time to join Lake Effect's Audrey Nowakowski via phone from Ireland to explains how a U.S. version of their reality show came to be:

Daniel O’Donnell is an Irish country music star and the star of Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip. The couple will be bringing the show stateside for an RV road trip across the Midwest, including Wisconsin.
