Manpower Says US Hiring Outlook Remains Positive, But Survey Was Taken Before Spread Of Coronavirus

Mar 9, 2020

The Milwaukee-based Manpower survey shows a stable hiring picture for the second quarter of the year.  However, the survey was taken in January — before the spread of the new coronavirus

More than 11,000 U.S. employers were polled. As it stands, 19% planned to add staff in the spring, which is the same as in the first quarter of the year. Employers in the Midwest planned to hire at the strongest pace in more than a decade at 21%.

Job prospects appeared best overall in the areas of hospitality, transportation, and retail. Another optimistic outlook was business services, driven by demand for digital skills. Manpower says demand continues to outpace the supply of skilled workers.
