Ex Fabula: Author! Author!

Kat Schleicher

This week, ExFabula is taking a look back on some of storytellers’ most memorable encounters with words and those who craft them.

The first story was shared back in April 2011 at Stonefly Brewery. Steph Kilen recounted the night she met her hero, literary icon, Michael Ondaatje. After spending a seven-hour car ride rehearsing the perfect message for this master of language, Steph realized that sometimes, things are better left unsaid.

The second story takes us into the seedy underworld of competitive Scrabble. At the2012 winter Spectacular at historic Turner Hall, Katy Richter, a recreational Scrabble player, learned about a secret document of over 250 secret Scrabble words. Katy knew she must have this Holy Grail of Scrabble. However, like most treasure hunts, the quest would not be easy.

Yay! September is here. The kids are back to school and we’re all scrambling to enjoy the last of our summer weather. While shorter days and cooler nights can be a drag, there is an upside to the end of summer. What could it be, you ask? It’s the Ex Fabula Season 6 Kick Off! Followed, in October, by our regular monthly story slams at your favorite Milwaukee spots.

Have you said, “This is the season I take the stage”? Well there’s no time like the present. Storytelling workshops begin soon and will help you craft that perfect performance. It’s your time! We’ve got the stage. You’ve got the stories.
