You’ve waited all summer and now it’s finally back! No, not Pumpkin Spice everything, the first Ex Fabula StorySlamof Season 8 is here. On Thursday, September 8, we’ll return to Garfield’s 502 for a night of “Risking It.” We look forward to seeing old friends and new faces as we kick off a season packed with exciting new programs and events to come.
This week, we have two very different stories from women who both chose to take risks. Our first story comes from Monica Thomas, a Season 7 Ex Fabula Fellow, who as a young half-Japanese/American child found herself risking school punishment and ridicule by standing up for herself and her abilities. Monica shared this and other stories throughout her season as an Ex Fabula Fellow.
We are also, currently accepting applications for our second annualEx Fabula Fellowship. Ex Fabula Fellows are community members who use personal stories to inspire community-led dialogue around some of the most pressing issues in the Greater Milwaukee area – segregation and economic and racial inequality.
Our second story is a light-hearted tale of a different sort of risk. When Jennifer Evanson and her boyfriend decided they wanted to “spice things up” a little, Jennifer thought they should probably come up with a safeword of some kind.
