The 87th Academy Awards will be announced in a globally televised ceremony on Sunday, February 22nd.

It’s required viewing for movie fans around the world, and caps the awards season, which started with the Golden Globes.

Like the Golden Globes, the award-winners – and the snubs – are fiercely debated, with most outsiders often complaining that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences plays it too safe in choosing big awards like Best Picture, Best Director or Best Actor and Actress.

What does Dave Luhrssen think?  He’s our regular film contributor, and shared his thoughts with Lake Effect's Dan Harmon, starting with Best Picture nominees.

Dave Luhrssen is Arts and Entertainment editor for the Shepherd Expressnewspaper and writes the I Hate Hollywood blog.

Audrey is a WUWM host and producer for Lake Effect.
Dan Harmon was one of the original members of Lake Effect (formerly At Ten). He started at WUWM in November of 1998 and left December of 2015 after 17 years of production.
