Time & the Mystery: Peter Mulvey

mikemangione.com

Mike Mangione is a Milwaukee area musician and also the host and producer of the artist-to-artist interview podcast called Time and the Mystery. Mangione appears every month on Lake Effect to discuss an interview he’s done with musicians, actors and other people of note.

This time, Mangione spoke with Peter Mulvey, a fellow Milwaukee singer/songwriter who Mangione says inspired his own career. "We start talking about the Milwaukee lineage -- Paul Cebar inspired Willy Porter and Peter Mulvey inspired Chris Porterfield and me, and now we have the Trapper Schoepp and Brett Newski. Everyone is just kind of 10 years looking up."

Mangione describes Mulvey as a deep thinker who's aware of it, which allowed for a quick dive into a deep conversation. "In this segment, we're talking about compassion and honesty which (Mulvey) says is more important than the traditional good and evil, left and right -- things can be too polarizing when there's a bigger narrative that we have to understand if we're actually going to have a conversation with each other," he says.

"What I love about this, is it shows that this depth that he goes in his music is how he goes in his conversations - is how he is in his heart is who he is as a person," adds Mangione.
