Norquist Chides Budget Plan for Crippling Milwaukee's Ability to Generate Wealth

Former Milwaukee mayor and state legislator John Norquist has strong opinions about the budget battling people are waging in Wisconsin.Norquist is now president and CEO of the Congress for the New Urbanism, a think tank promoting the growth of cities.

He says Governor Scott Walker’s proposed two year budget puts the city between a “boulder and a hard place,” by excluding police and fire fighters from mandatory benefit contributions, while restricting property tax increases. He predicts the combination will make it virtually impossible for the City of Milwaukee to deliver necessary services.

Still, the former mayor sees a few good things for Milwaukee in the governor’s spending plan.
