Milwaukee Student Sings Her Way to National Award

As part of our end-of-the-year series, "Life’s Voices," we bring you a profile of Shampriel Morrise. She's a junior at Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

Morrise received the YoungArts Merit Award from the National YoungArts Foundation. The honor is shared by 700 students around the country selected from more than 10,000 applicants. Morrise will now travel to Miami to take master classes taught by world-renowned artists and has the chance to become a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

She earned the award for her performance of a song from the musical, “Blues in the Night.”
