Food for Thought: Ways Milwaukee Might Fund Its Cultural Amenities

Some Milwaukee County arts and entertainment properties need a major influx of cash. The Public Policy Forum shares strategies other communities have adopted.

Among them: a temporary sale tax hike to pay for capital improvements, a regional sales tax and a tiered funding mechanism.

Forum President Rob Henken says, "First, Milwaukee might want to consider two overriding policy issues. Are residents satisfied with the way they fund local government - through the property tax and, should the county be responsible for cultural assets?"
