This week we’re getting ready for the sixth annual Doors Open Milwaukee event. We'll celebrate Milwaukee with stories and Ultra Shorts all about this vibrant, complicated, multi-faceted city that we love. Ex Fabula and Historic Milwaukee, Inc. will present a Milwaukee neighborhood-inspired StorySlam as part of Doors Open Milwaukee on September 17th. This noncompetitive, curated StorySlam features true, personal stories from tellers who range from first-timers to Ex Fabula ALL STARS. We’ll also be collecting UltraShorts at the event, so come with your favorite Milwaukee story to share.
In the spirit of Milwaukee neighborhoods, our first story comes from Lamont Smith who participated in our 2011 Terminal Milwaukee project. Lamont took the stage at Sherman Park’s historic Satin Wave Barbershop to share his memories of growing up in different neighborhoods and the importance the local barbershop played in the community.
Our second story is a short and sweet little anecdote from Bill Lange. Also from the 2011 Terminal Milwaukee series, Bill joined us at Sherman Perk to share a delightful memory of an early morning walk to school and work with his young son.
The deadline for the Ex Fabula Season 8 Fellowship Program is Monday, September 12th.
