Tony Evers: 'I'm Going To Be Your Next Governor'

With less than 24 hours until Election Day, people still haven’t lost their momentum behind “get out the vote” efforts. Candidates campaigned throughout the state over the weekend.

The rainy weather proved to be no obstacle for Milwaukee voters who gathered to cheer on Democratic candidates Sunday night.

Dozens of people filed into the Coordinated Campaign South Milwaukee Office to hear from incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor Tony Evers and Mandela Barnes, and candidate for state treasurer Sarah Godlewski.

The crowd erupted with cheers and applause when they arrived.

Evers shared this upbeat prediction: “Here we are getting to the end, and I’m going to be your next governor,” he said confidently.

Evers did not hold back talking about areas where he says Republican Gov. Scott Walker has fallen short — whether it was road quality or education. And on the issue of healthcare, Evers said Walker is now trying to change his stance on covering pre-existing medical conditions just days away from the election, but his actions don’t match.

“Here he is in one side saying, 'These pre-existing conditions, the protections for them, I’m one of them, so we’re going to take care of all you people.' Well, that’s the one side of his mouth. At the same time, he’s in federal court to get rid of the Affordable Care Act, along with the protections for those pre-existing conditions. There’s something wrong with that — you might even call it a lie,” Evers said.

He also encouraged people to continue to canvass neighborhoods and make phone calls to get people to the polls up until Election Day.

One Evers supporter, Bob Berg says he’s optimistic about results. “It’s very difficult to predict, it’s a very close election, but I believe in the people of Wisconsin. I believe in the people of Wisconsin that they will see through the shallowness of our incumbent and elect Tony Evers and Mandela Barnes.”

Walker also hosted his own campaign events across Wisconsin Sunday and plans to do more campaigning on Monday.
