Wisconsin has the widest achievement gap between black and white students of any state based on results of a test known as the nation's report card.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress test results released Wednesday show no significant change from statewide results a decade ago. However, declining scores for the lowest performing students resulted in Wisconsin having the widest achievement gap of any state.

Wisconsin superintendent of schools Carolyn Stanford Taylor says the achievement gap is a crisis and closing the gaps is "imperative for our state."

The Republican leader of the Wisconsin state Senate said Tuesday he plans to convene and then immediately adjourn a special session Democratic Gov. Tony Evers called on a pair of gun control measures, without debating or voting on the proposals.

The Wisconsin Assembly on Thursday approved accommodations for a disabled Democratic lawmaker, despite his objections that Republicans had tied the changes to unrelated provisions aimed at expanding GOP power.

A Milwaukee man and woman are accused in an alleged counterfeit THC vape operation.

Police searched a home on Milwaukee's south side last week and uncovered nearly $1 million in cash and more than 10,000 THC vaping cartridges.

According to the complaint, police also found 18 pounds of marijuana in addition to the cartridges filled with THC oil.

Democratic Gov. Tony Evers will issue Wisconsin's first pardons in nine years, invoking his constitutional power to grant clemency to four people.

Evers plans to issue the pardons Monday, the first he's making as governor after he re-started the pardons board in June. Evers' predecessor, Republican Scott Walker, never issued a single pardon over his eight years as governor.

A man convicted of rape and murder when he was a teenager whose story was documented in the 2015 Netflix series Making a Murderer is asking Wisconsin's governor for a pardon or commutation of his life prison sentence, attorneys said Wednesday.

Brendan Dassey was 16 years old when he confessed to Wisconsin authorities that he had joined his uncle, Steve Avery, in the 2015 rape and murder of photographer Teresa Halbach, before burning her body in a bonfire.

President Donald Trump's agriculture secretary said Tuesday during a stop in Wisconsin that he doesn't know if the family dairy farm can survive as the industry moves toward a factory farm model.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue told reporters following an appearance at the World Dairy Expo in Madison that it's getting harder for farmers to get by on milking smaller herds.

A legislative task force that studied ways to prevent suicides in Wisconsin is recommending creation of a statewide suicide prevention program with a director who would oversee the effort, according to a copy of its recommendations that The Associated Press obtained on Tuesday.

Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos created the bipartisan task force in March. It was to officially release its findings at a Capitol news conference on Wednesday.

Republican Scott Fitzgerald, a 25-year veteran of the Wisconsin state Senate, announced Tuesday that he is running for Congress in a strongly conservative district to replace longtime U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner.

Fitzgerald, the first Republican to enter the race, was an early supporter of President Donald Trump in Wisconsin and his campaign website prominently features of picture of Fitzgerald standing next to a smiling Trump who is giving a thumbs up.

Wisconsin's former Republican Gov. Scott Walker said Friday that his 25-year-old son is considering running for an open congressional seat in a suburban Milwaukee district.

Walker told WISN-TV in an interview that his son, Matt, is interested in the traditionally conservative seat that includes the city of Wauwatosa, where he was born and grew up. Matt Walker, a 2016 Marquette University graduate, has never run for public office.

Nearly nine out of 10 cases where vaping led to people developing a severe lung disease in Wisconsin involved the use of THC products, such as waxes or oils, Wisconsin's Department of Health Services said Thursday.

Health officials said that 89% of the 27 people they interviewed who became sick reported using e-cigarettes or other vaping devices to inhale THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana.

A panel of federal judges ruled that Democrats do not have to pay attorneys' fees and costs incurred by the GOP in a Wisconsin gerrymandering lawsuit. Republican legislators and state officials had requested to be reimbursed for the costs of defending the redrawn maps.

Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said he won't run for office again in 2022 because he has accepted a new full-time job running a group based in Washington, D.C., that promotes conservative ideas among young people.

The Republican had been openly considering running for his old job as governor or for U.S. Senate in 2022. But Walker told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in a story published Monday that his job as president of the Young America's Foundation, which is based in the Washington area, will make it impossible for him to run for office in 2022.
