South Milwaukee Lawmaker to Resign from Assembly

State Rep. Mark Honadel announced Tuesday that he’ll take a job in the private sector.

In a statement, the Republican says he will step down in mid-September. He did not name his new employer.

Honadel has served in the Assembly for 10 years, after winning a special election in 2003.

He says he considers as accomplishments his support for legislation “that balanced the state budget without raising taxes, held the line on property taxes, and created a state surplus.”

The representative also mentions the legislation that helped clear the way for a divisive iron ore mine to be built in northern Wisconsin.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos issued a statement thanking Honadel for his service. Vos says Hondadel provided leadership on the mining bill, as well as a measure that links unemployed people to part-time training jobs, and Jessica’s Law, which sets a mandatory minimum sentence for first-time child sex offenders.
