Walker Orders Talks on Potential Casino

Gov. Walker has directed his administration secretary to meet with tribal leaders about the possible development of a Hard Rock casino in Kenosha.

The governor said via a written statement, that "Helping the people of Wisconsin create more jobs is my number one priority." So he has asked one of his cabinet leaders to huddle with the tribal governments in the state to figure out how to maximum job creation overall, while not creating jobs in one region just to lose them in another.

Two tribes have remain opposed to the Menomonie's plans to develop a casino and entertainment center on the site of the former Dairyland greyhound track. They fear a big operation in Kenosha would siphon earnings from their casinos, including from the Potawatomi casino in Milwaukee.

Walker stated at the onset, he would only approve a Kenosha casino if all tribes here agree to the plan and there is no net increase in gaming in Wisconsin. The governor makes the final decision.
