The state Democratic convention is getting underway in Wisconsin Dells. The party's leading candidate for governor, Mary Burke will deliver the keynote.
Burke says she intends to use her time in the spotlight to urge Democrats to unify, in their battle to defeat Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November.
Party members will also vote on their platform for this election year. Among the items included are support for gay marriage and the legalization of marijuana.
The role Assemblyman Brett Hulsey plays this weekend remains unknown. He is considered a long-shot as a Democratic contender for governor. The party primary is scheduled for August.
Burke will take the podium at the large political gathering, with the latest Marquette Law School Poll showing her tied with Walker among Wisconsin voters.
